Liposuction is a fant­astic tool, designed to remove stub­born fat and tighten and enhance contours. The procedure consists of inser­tion of a thin hollow metal tube (gener­ally smaller than 3 – 4 milli­metre) under­neath the skin, the fat is then vacu­umed out into a jar. There are many vari­ants of liposuc­tion were different types of energy devices are used to help with the break­down and suctioning of the fat and tight­ening of the overlying skin. VASER uses Ultrasound Energy to break­down the fat cells and makes it easier to suck the fat. Our, SmartLipo uses a laser to melt the fat and tighten the skin. BodyTite uses Radiofrequency energy in a similar way to SmartLipo or Laser Liposuction WaterJet uses the force of a very high speed spray of water to break­down the fat.

Can I slim my whole thigh down?

Yes. Often times, you are blessed with stocky thighs that are out of propor­tion to the rest of your body. Generally, this is a familial tend­ency and dieting, exer­cise or weight loss doesn’t seem to make any differ­ence to your thighs. Can I ever slim down and get rid of my saddlebag thighs?

The appear­ance of Saddlebag thighs can be distressing to patients espe­cially as it is a hormonal or familial tend­ency that is extremely resistant to weight loss or dieting. Saddlebag thighs can make choosing trousers or jeans diffi­cult because of a marked differ­ence between the waist circum­fer­ence and that of the thighs. Liposuction in any of its forms can be an excel­lent contouring tech­nique for you.

Do the non-surgical alternatives to Thigh, Saddlebags liposuction work?

There are three popular choices you have when you are consid­ering Non-Surgical Liposuction of the Saddlebags, Thighs, Inner Thighs or Knees. All the nonsur­gical devices use some kind of energy applic­ators that will damage the fat cells under­neath your skin and they all rely on your body to get rid of the broken-down fat. The results of these tech­niques don’t show till 3–6 months following the treat­ment and some­times repeat treat­ments are required to achieve some results.

Cryolipolysis or CoolSculpting uses specially designed applic­ator pads that cool the skin and the under­lying fat, the prin­ciple of this concept is that fat cells freeze at 4 degrees Celsius while skin tissue and blood vessels don’t. The fat freezing destroys the fat cells.

SculpSure achieves the destruc­tion of the fat cells using Laser Energy, Vanquish uses Radiofrequency energy.

All the non-surgical devices work to some extent in a care­fully selected patient with minimal fat deposits, none of the devices can achieve the imme­diate results possible with the surgical liposuc­tion technique.

Can I have inner thigh liposuction to get a Thigh Gap?

The desire for a Thigh Gap (a space between the inner thighs) is a Media created, false body image. While some women will have a bony struc­ture to their pelvis and thigh bones that creates the appear­ance of a gap, the majority of healthy and natur­ally beau­tiful women will not have a thigh gap. Unfortunately, a lot of young females have fallen prey to this media craze and have tried to do extreme dieting to the point of anor­exia to try to get the thigh gap at the cost to their health.

The desire to have a Thigh Gap there­fore is unreal­istic for a woman who does not have the right anatomy; it also does not make any differ­ence to the persons beauty.

Inner thigh liposuc­tion can however be used to reduce the mech­an­ical rubbing of the inner thighs, but has to be done with great care, as it can some­times unmask laxity of the inner thigh skin, giving rise to irreg­u­lar­ities after treatment.

We advise all our patients that inner thigh liposuc­tion will always be done conser­vat­ively to avoid contour irreg­u­larity. Often we advise the patients have Laser Assisted Liposuction or SmartLipo in the Inner Thigh area as it promotes greater skin tight­ening following the liposuction.

What is the recovery from thigh liposuction, when can I go back to work?

As with any liposuc­tion surgery you will have some tender­ness, swelling and bruising of the oper­ated areas. You will have to wear the pres­sure garment for a month, taking it off only while taking a shower. You will gener­ally need a week or two before you will be able to go back to work.

What are the risks and complications of Thigh Liposuction?

Liposuction is one of the safest cosmetic surgery proced­ures and the majority of our patients don’t exper­i­ence any complic­a­tions. But we make it a point to outline all the possible side effects and complic­a­tions of liposuc­tion to all our patients at the time of the first consulta­tion, so they can make an informed decision. The reported issues range from contour irreg­u­lar­ities, rippling, over removal of fat, skin burns, unsat­is­factory scars.
