The desire for a snatched well-defined jawline and a nicely projecting chin with a sweeping neckline is considered a sign of youth and beauty.
There are many reasons for the appearance of a double chin, ranging from genetics (you might have inherited a short stocky neck) to developmental reasons, were you might have gone over your ideal body weight. Some of the reasons for this appearance are unrelated to the degree of fat tissue under the chin, but relate to a weak or retruded chin or a very shallow angle between the chin and neck (the cervicomental angle).
If excessive fat is the primary cause of your double chin, then double chin liposuction under local anesthesia is the most elegant way of getting rid of this fat. You have to be aware that in the neck there are two kinds of fat tissue in the double chin area, fat under the skin which you can pinch and fat below the platysma muscle which can’t be removed with liposuction.
If the skin has lost its elasticity and is not expected to snap back after the liposuction then assisted techniques like NeckTite come in handy as it aids with the skin and collagen tightening in addition to the liposuction.
Sometimes addition of volume to the chin and jawline with dermal fillers or implants will enhance the effect of double chin surgery.

Are there ways of getting rid of my double chin without surgery?
Yes, there are several non-surgical techniques that have been designed to deal with a double chin. Cryolipolysis or cool sculpting is a technology that uses applicators that freeze the fat cells under your skin destroying the fat cells. Over time your body gets rid of these damaged cells causing you to lose the double chin. Coolsculpting often involves multiple treatments and you have to wait several months to see the results. There is also a well-known side effect of cool sculpting which is called Paradoxical Hyperplasia in which the fat cells increase in size instead of decreasing; the recent case of famous model Linda Evangelista demonstrates this complication.
The other non-surgical modality involves the use of chemical injections like Klybella, Aqualyx that contain deoxycholic acid into the fat underneath your skin. Deoxycholic acid is a bile acid that dissolves fat cells, the intention of these injections is to cause fat cell destruction and for the body to take away the damaged fat cells. Similar to the CoolSculpting there is a need for multiple treatments and you will have to wait many months to see the result. Given that there is a chemical reaction at the heart of this treatment, you can expect the treated area to swell considerably post treatment for a few weeks before it starts settling down.
There are some energy-based devices that can help with double chins like Morpheus8 Fractional Radiofrequency Microneedling, and Ultherapy. However, the gold standard of managing double chins is local anesthesia Microcanalicular liposuction. This delivers predictable long-term results, making it ideal for double chin liposuction treatments.
What is involved in liposuction of double chin?
On the day of your treatment after you have had a chance to sign the consent form and markings and photos have been taken you will lie down on the couch and we will proceed to numb the area using extremely thin needles. We will then wait for the numbing to take effect, following which we will make tiny 2 ‑3 mm cuts in the skin below the earlobe and just under the chin and proceed to suck out the excess fat using a thin blunt liposuction tube. Once satisfactory evacuation of the excess fat is achieved, we will close the cuts we have made and dress the area and give you a pressure garment to wear. You go home with this garment on and keep it on for the first 5 days after which you can wear it as long as possible especially at nights to allow the skin to redrapes in a desired position.
