Liposuction is a fantastic tool, designed to remove stubborn fat and tighten and enhance contours. The procedure consists of insertion of a thin hollow metal tube (generally smaller than 3 – 4 millimetre) underneath the skin, the fat is then vacuumed out into a jar. This clearly is an oversimplification of the process and our doctors at Reforme Medical, UK will make sure you understand the whole process down to the tiniest detail, before you make your decision about using this tool, to sculpt your body.
There are many variants of liposuction were different types of energy devices are used to help with the breakdown and suctioning of the fat and tightening of the overlying skin. VASER uses Ultrasound Energy to breakdown the fat cells and makes it easier to suck the fat. Our, SmartLipo uses a laser to melt the fat and tighten the skin. BodyTite uses Radiofrequency energy in a similar way to SmartLipo or Laser Liposuction WaterJet uses the force of a very high speed spray of water to breakdown the fat.
Power Assisted Liposuction, Tickle Liposuction, MicroAire, are all devices that make the vacuuming of the fat out of the body more effective and less time consuming. They can be used with any of the above energy assisted devices.

Can I slim my whole thigh down?
Yes. Often times, you are blessed with stocky thighs that are out of proportion to the rest of your body. Generally, this is a familial tendency and dieting, exercise or weight loss doesn’t seem to make any difference to your thighs. Liposuction of the sides, front and inner thighs can be used to great effect to remove the excess fat under the skin, achieving a slimmer contour of the thighs. We would love to invite you to our clinic Reforme Medical in Cardiff, UK either in person or via our online portal.
Can I ever slim down and get rid of my saddlebag thighs?
The appearance of Saddlebag thighs can be distressing to patients especially as it is a hormonal or familial tendency that is extremely resistant to weight loss or dieting. Saddlebag thighs can make choosing trousers or jeans difficult because of a marked difference between the waist circumference and that of the thighs. Liposuction in any of its forms can be an excellent contouring technique for you.
Do the non-surgical alternatives to Thigh, Saddlebags liposuction work?
There are three popular choices you have when you are considering Non-Surgical Liposuction of the Saddlebags, Thighs, Inner Thighs or Knees. All the nonsurgical devices use some kind of energy applicators that will damage the fat cells underneath your skin and they all rely on your body to get rid of the broken-down fat. The results of these techniques don’t show till 3–6 months following the treatment and sometimes repeat treatments are required to achieve some results.
Cryolipolysis or CoolSculpting uses specially designed applicator pads that cool the skin and the underlying fat, the principle of this concept is that fat cells freeze at 4 degrees Celsius while skin tissue and blood vessels don’t. The fat freezing destroys the fat cells.
SculpSure achieves the destruction of the fat cells using Laser Energy, Vanquish uses Radiofrequency energy.
All the non-surgical devices work to some extent in a carefully selected patient with minimal fat deposits, none of the devices can achieve the immediate results possible with the surgical liposuction technique.
Can I have inner thigh liposuction to get a Thigh Gap?
The desire for a Thigh Gap (a space between the inner thighs) is a Media created, false body image. While some women will have a bony structure to their pelvis and thigh bones that creates the appearance of a gap, the majority of healthy and naturally beautiful women will not have a thigh gap. Unfortunately, a lot of young females have fallen prey to this media craze and have tried to do extreme dieting to the point of anorexia to try to get the thigh gap at the cost to their health.
The desire to have a Thigh Gap therefore is unrealistic for a woman who does not have the right anatomy; it also does not make any difference to the persons beauty.
Inner thigh liposuction can however be used to reduce the mechanical rubbing of the inner thighs, but has to be done with great care, as it can sometimes unmask laxity of the inner thigh skin, giving rise to irregularities after treatment.
We advise all our patients that inner thigh liposuction will always be done conservatively to avoid contour irregularity. Often we advise the patients have Laser Assisted Liposuction or SmartLipo in the Inner Thigh area as it promotes greater skin tightening following the liposuction.
What is the recovery from thigh liposuction, when can I go back to work?
As with any liposuction surgery you will have some tenderness, swelling and bruising of the operated areas. You will have to wear the pressure garment for a month, taking it off only while taking a shower. You will generally need a week or two before you will be able to go back to work.
What are the risks and complications of Thigh Liposuction?
Liposuction is one of the safest cosmetic surgery procedures and the majority of our patients don’t experience any complications. But we make it a point to outline all the possible side effects and complications of liposuction to all our patients at the time of the first consultation, so they can make an informed decision.
